Take a look at this video. At the 6:18 mark in video their appears to be a small explosion of some sort that blows the helmet off of a firefighter. What is your take, Flashover, Backdraft or smoke explosion ?
I also think this is a decent video when talking about fire spread and reading smoke conditions. The thick black/grey pre-flashover smoke is very evident as this crew vents the roof.

I think this is most likely a smoke explosion. Plenty of smoke production and with the obvious addition to this structure, plenty of void spaces for it to accumulate, waiting for a "breath" of air.
ReplyDeleteJust from watching this video, it SEEMS like a little bit more aggressiveness with pike poles and a hand line inside and this fire could have been controlled pretty quickly. Again with the addition, may have been tougher than it looks.
I won't bother to comment on the obvious stupidity of the lack of PPE.
